Emeritus Professor of Earth Science
B.S., M.S., D.Ed., Pennsylvania State University
Prior to my retirement in 2009, I was a member of the Physics and Earth Science Department for 40 years. My regular teaching duties involved one course each in Astronomy, Geology, Meteorology, and Science Methods for the Elementary Schools. I also taught Writing in Science Education (half-course) and the Seminar in Science Student Teaching on an as-needed basis. I have had team teaching experiences both the CORE science course, "Revolutions in Science," and in the Temple University Graduate Education Program for Teachers. I was the advisor to the general science teacher education programs throughout my career and, until 2002, coordinated all of Moravian's science education programs. I was also the advisor of Moravian's Cooperative Geology Program with Lehigh University. Throughout my career I maintained membership in the Geological Society of America, the National Science Teachers Association, and the American Association for the Advancement of Science, and for the last half of my career the Geological Association of New Jersey as well. I served a four-year term on the College's board of trustees. I received the Lindback Award for Distinguished Teaching in 1972. My academic interests are in statistical applications in geology, seismology, meteorite impact, and science education. I also have had interests in constructing science equipment to support my educational programs and building and operating seismographs, including developing software for the educational use of classroom seismometers. I was a continuing member of the Teacher Education Committee and, for the last four years of my employment, was chairperson of the Faculty Development and Research Committee. My personal interests include travel and photography.
